We don't have television, so we don't have a nightly intrusion of pictures and sound of mayhem from across the globe. But with the internet, bless her little electroheart, the news is there if you feel like bothering with it.
Today is typical, or so it would seem, of the general unrelenting skank which grips the globe.
Let's see-- US soldiers killed in Iraq should hit 2600 before the end of the month, and the number of injured GIs will probably be around 19,000. If only one in ten of those are serious and permanent, that would be nearly as many permanently maimed soldiers as those killed.
Meanwhile, we hear from Mel Gibson, that all wars are caused by the Jews, though he didn't put it that politely.
Israel, presumably a hotbed of war-causers, is pushing further into Lebanon, with increasing numbers of casualties, mostly civilian, on both sides.
And Bush, once again clueless in the presence of an open mic, blames the Syrians for the current problems in Lebanon, like Mel, somewhat profanely.
Is all the news bad or grim? Certainly not. But really, there's enough bad news to take the luster off even an otherwise nice day.
